Sent to the two principals, Jo Gardiner & Greg Johnstone... My apologies for the delay in getting this to you Just a brief email to thank you both so very much for making some time to spend with me 2 weeks ago when I got to visit my ‘old haunts’ and reflect on many of the memories that came flooding back as we toured the schools. The photos I was privileged to see copies of brought back many fond memories. Delighted to see that both schools are continuing to thrive, albeit in differing capacities and embracing new opportunities. I had a fantastic time. I really do appreciate your efforts. I’m proud to have been a part of the area so long ago and in many ways am grateful for the ‘resiliency’ I learned from having grown up there. The experiences of that laid some very strong foundations for what was to lie ahead in my journey through life. They continue to provide me with the strength & determination to succeed at those aims I have chosen to achieve...and they’re not over yet!!! As with all things, 40+ years of change have influenced my former neighbourhood and adjacent suburbs. I spent several hours cruising around the area, remembering the homes, people, parks and buildings, some of which have inevitably disappeared and replaced with something else. I enjoyed a lunch at Bow’s Restaurant in Blacktown (62 years in business!!!) where we used to be taken for a ‘special treat’ as kids with a couple of my former school friends. Great to see that Garry Freeman was such a support on the Lalor Park 50th anniversary. We’ve maintained some contact over the decades and it’s good to have so many memories to share. Sadly, some of my contemporaries and former teachers are no longer alive but the memories live on in my mind and heart. I remember well a quote of John Adams (2nd US-American President) ‘A teacher affects eternity...for no-one knows where their influence ends’ which guided my practices within the various education systems I have been privileged to work in for over 35 years. Wishing you, your staff, students & families every continuing success in all that you undertake. Long live Lalor Park Public School and Seven Hills High!!! Fond regards, Phil Walcott M.A. B.Soc. Sc.
