Sent to us by Megan Leigh for the engagement contest: April 5th, 2014. The day that changed my life forever-- and continues to be the most exciting moment of my life thus far. My engagement story is one of creativity and romance. It all began when my fiancée, David (not a planner-type in the least,) suggested we go hiking for the weekend. Early April meant we were approaching our anniversary, so naturally I was suspicious this was something more than just a way to spend a free Saturday. We got to Gambril State Park and began hiking the trail. David continued to fidget in his pocket and I assumed it was because he had picked out a ring and was nervous about the impending proposal. We arrived at the overlook he had advised was our intended destination…but no engagement came. I was a little disappointed; I assumed I’d been wrong about the entire purpose of the trip. We went for lunch on the way back home and he was on his phone for a good portion of the meal. To be fair, it was his friend’s birthday, and he did allude multiple times to the fact that the calls and texts were regarding the plans for his friend’s party later that evening (which was actually him texting our parents who were at our home decorating). We finished soon after and left to go home. By this point, all I wanted was a nice Saturday afternoon nap. I entered our front door and saw a plastic egg suspended from the ceiling bearing the words, “OPEN ME.” I opened it and read the slip of paper, “The Search is almost over.” As I proceeded into our living room, I saw matching eggs hanging everywhere. There were eighteen in total, and each colored egg held a message ranging in nature from serious to funny, describing all of the things he loved about me (“Your belief in me,” “Your work ethic,” etc.) There was one golden egg at the end. When I opened it, I couldn’t believe what was written, “Will you marry me?” I spun around and saw David holding an opened ring box, with a stunning diamond ring sparking right in the middle. (Thank you, Janenne Mckale-Cook!) Of course, I immediately said, “Yes!” He then yelled, “She said, ‘Yes.’” No sooner could I turn back around, when our parents appeared out of the spare bedroom clapping and popping champagne to begin the celebrations. We are now planning our wedding for next year. With an engagement like this, I can only imagine how happy I will be when our wedding day finally arrives.
