Sepp: Brazil WC outdid SA 2010 FIFA president Sepp Blatter says this years World Cup was better than the previous edition in South Africa. The world footballing body gave the Brazil-staged event - which concluded with Germanys 1-0 win over Argentina in the Final on Sunday - a rating of 9.25 out of 10. The World Cup was a success, Blatter said at the closing press conference on Monday. We have improved on four years ago in South Africa. This was my 10th World Cup and my fifth as president and what makes this so very, very special was the quality of the football and the intensity of the games. We consulted all our computers and our Facebooks and decided on 9.25 out of 10 because perfection does not exist in football. Meanwhile, Blatter said he was surprised to see Lionel Messi win the player of the tournament award. Thomas Muller and Arjen Robben placed second and third respectively. I was a little bit surprised when I saw Messi coming up to collect the best player of the competition, Blatter said. Blatter, though, said Messis four goals in the group stages were crucial to La Albicelestes march to the Final. If you compare the beginning of the tournament and why the Argentina team got into the Final, they were decisive, he said. The Golden Ball and other individual prizes, such as the Golden Glove accolade for the best goalkeeper, are decided by Fifas Technical Study Group, a 13-strong committee which analyses matches at international competitions.
