Sept 8th 1900, within 2 years construction the seawall was underway at it has prevented this from ever happening again to Galveston Island. However,this could happen to the entire Galveston bay area, ship channel included. Building the Ike Dike would prevent this from happening. Yet the Federal Gov. spent $15billion to build dikes in New Orleans and is preparing to spend several billion more there. New York is getting $50billion and they get a hurrican every 100 years. We are getting screwed big time.
