September 17th, 2014, Come out and Come all! Sierra Leoneans, friends of Sierra Leone, humanity loving people, let’s come out in numbers and assemble in front of the Legislative Assembly building in Winnipeg, on September 17th, 2014 Our city, Winnipeg, is playing an integral role in the fight against the Ebola virus. The National Microbiology Laboratory, which performed the research of the experimental Ebola therapy ZMAPP is right with us here in Winnipeg. Through the leadership of SALNAM and its Ebola committee chairman Dr. Ismail Yumkella, the Ebola committee will invite one of the scientist from the Ebola research lab to come and talk to us on September 17th. The committee shall also invite the City Mayor, Government officials, Politicians and different organizations to come and raise the necessary awareness for this crisis Sierra Leoneans, let us come out and answer to this call of duty. Come and perform your national service. Sierra Leone needs the skill set and expertise of each and everyone of us. The government of Sierra Leone has been performing its own role, medical professionals and scientist are still working to contain the virus, the whole world is on pause waiting for a solution... You might be that solution…. Whether you are a farmer, medical practitioner , fisherman, lawyers, military person, woman , man, young or old, etc, you all have a role to play in this fight. Sierra Leoneans in Winnipeg, your organization SALNAM has had a long and impressive record of championing successful campaign of helping brothers and sisters in Sierra leone. You have never turn your back against your country and its people, you are always there when Sierra Leone needs you.This time is no different. You have demonstrated your love for your country in countless times including the late 90s when you rescued hundreds of refugees from neighbouring Guinea to find new loving home in Manitoba, In the Educational sector, you offered scholarships to students in tertiary education in Sierra Leone, you distributed computers to higher learning institutions across Sierra leone. In 2010, you sent a shipment of medical equipment worth hundreds of dollars for distribution to hospitals in Sierra Leone, just to name but a few When the Ebola outbreak began, in collaboration with the Special Executive Assistance to the President Dr. Sylvia Blyden, (in which to her credit donated $7,000 for shipment of these equipment) SALNAM was among the first organizations to provide anti-ebola working equipment that worth over $100,000 including 500 boxes of disposable Particulate Respiratory Masks, 1,500 boxes of disposable facial Earflap Masks and hundreds of yellow disposable Isolation Gowns, etc The battle is still on, there is no time to rest. We still have a lot to do, we have to keep going. Let us provide the logistical support needed by the frontline workers. let’s support fundraising endeavours to raise the money needed in this fight.
