September 23, 2014 . To Your Excellency, and to other good - TopicsExpress

September 23, 2014 . To Your Excellency, and to other good people and organizations who have been concerned with the deteriorating world conditions over the past two years: My message to the Syrian American Council posted as a comment on their Facebook page*, in response to their ABSURD, yet consistent position over the past three years or more that NOT NEGOTIATING WITH ASSAD is the sine qua non of virtue. . Actually, the intransigent position of the Syrian opposition is the recipe for eternal war. How do they propose to ever end the Syrian civil war without negotiating an end to it? Apparently, they fantasize a re-enactment of V-E day. . That will not happen in the Syrian war- but this fantasy that something like this can, will or should happen is the false premise which has cost over 200,000 precious human lives, and has undermined stability in this entire part of the world, endangering nations near to and far from Syria. . Since no nation has come forward with a solution to this problem of chronic and endless war in Syria, I ask that Your Excellency, and the others reading this open letter, seriously consider obtaining the strongest backing possible for this peace effort and all my other unique peace efforts (some of which have been successful and are overdue for recognition), in any way that you possibly can provide - whether that be publicity, financial support through a charitable foundation whose business it is to do this, or simply joining the Facebook groups listed at the end of this e-mail. . The message to the Syrian-American council is below, reprinted verbatim, with one addition (in parentheses) provided for context; a context which the Syrian opposition will understand. . My message to the Syrian-American Council was delivered under Here it is: ********************************************************** ********************************************************** TO THE SYRIAN OPPOSITION . It isnt the business of the United States to b0mb any part of Syria which is actually controlled by the Syrian Government. That would be absolutely illegal. THAT is the solution. That is the way to stop the fighting within Syria between the Assad government and the Syrian opposition, and bring in a coalition government. . . Nine signatures in the first two hours - and then.....NOTHING in the next eight hours!** . (According to Mohammed Alaa Ghanem, Obama Must Strike Assad, Too B0mbing ISIL isn’t enough. The real problem is the Syrian regime. . This Syrian opposition statement does not hit the nail on the head, and it is absurd. The real problem is the regime in Washington.) . No one believes the US Government any more. Even THIS EFFORT by the US Government is perceived by most Americans as going too far. . Credibility is essential to the success of any further major effort, including the one against the land-pirates. . Join us: . . . . . Trying to fight any type of war without credibility is like trying to operate an aircraft backwards, without landing gear. . The Syrian opposition has said all along that it will not negotiate with Assad. If Assad bears moral responsibility for all the deaths in the Syrian civil war, then so does the Syrian opposition for saying WE WONT NEGOTIATE. The position is unreasonable and intransigent, there is absolutely no virtue or prospect of success in it. . The position WE WONT NEGOTIATE may be based on some belief that the Syrian opposition can ultimately trust in the US Government to come through with billions of dollars in aid and huge, decisive amounts of weaponry. I will tell you the truth - you may not like it, but you have to learn it: . Read the above links. . The AMERICAN PEOPLE cannot even trust the US Government. WHAT MAKES YOU THINK YOU CAN? . With what has happened in Yemen over the past few years, culminating in the developments today and earlier this week, the Syrian opposition should wisely take this history as an object lesson, and encourage the US Government to support President Assad. . Furthermore, the Syrian opposition has done absolutely nothing to support human rights in the United States, where there is a REAL PROBLEM with human rights, at least as bad as the problems cited under Assad, and possibly much, much worse. . One example of the severe deterioration in human rights in the United States is the fact that the right to petition has been throttled, blocked and otherwise cut to shreds, thanks in major part to US Government censorship policies which have become particularly acute since 2012, and have grown more harsh by the day. Yet you are petitioning the United States Government for aid and assistance. Look at what has happened to Americans who petition the same Government. Look at the fact that our repeated petitions have been answered only be repeated injury. . Yet the Syrian opposition expects the United States to jump to its aid, and to supply weaponry which is most likely to fall into the hands of either President Assads forces, or the land pirates to the east who have gobbled up most of Syria already - and some Syrian opposition groups are aligned with the land pirates. . Your intransigence, your saying WE WONT NEGOTIATE has given these land pirates the opportunity of a lifetime by creating a POWER VACUUM where once there was a nation. . You do realize that if the United States supplies ANY Syrian opposition groups with weaponry, and then this weaponry falls into the hands of the Syrian government, this could be a valid pretext for Russia to start a war with the United States. Yet the position of the Syrian opposition is WE WONT NEGOTIATE. This means that the United States cannot align itself with the Syrian opposition overtly, without risking the well being of every person in America, and the world. . The United States made an agreement with President Assad regarding chemical weaponry removal. For the US Government to declare war on Assad would be bad faith, just as the US Governments dealings with Saddam Hussein were ultimately in bad faith - and with bad results. . Assad may be human and therefore prone to error as we all are, and he may be evil in your opinion; but he is NOT more evil than the Syrian civil war which has killed over 200,000 people - and has displaced and harmed millions more, ruining the lives of everyone in the country. . Obamas position with the Syrian opposition should be: If YOU wont negotiate with ASSAD, how can the USA negotiate WITH YOU? .
