September 27, 2013 PRESS RELEASE The Gbinije Campaign Organisation (GCO) has found it necessary to react to the conduct of the primaries of the Democratic Peoples Party (DPP) which took place on the September 24, at the Ugheli Hall. Prior to the primaries the leadership of the party promised all the candidates that there was going to be a transparent, free and fair primaries to produce a popular candidate who will fly its flag at the by-election for the Delta Central Senatorial District to be conducted on October 5. With the promises of a true primaries, the party released candidates list to the aspirants including the GCO to enable us canvas for votes in a seeming democratic tenet. Apart from the huge cost of the process, midway into our campaign, the party enlarged the delegate list by co-opting the local government chairmanship and councillorship aspirants into delegate list, a development which automatically added more financial burden on the aspirants. To us at GCO we felt the party was only trying to fulfill its promise of conducting a free and fair election by enlarging the delegate list but little did we know that the Tony Ezeagwu-led Delta State Chapter of the DPP was only riding roughshod on the intelligence of the aspirants. Shockingly, on the day of the primaries, during the accreditation of the delegates by officials of the party, we discovered that the delegate list given to us by the party was a fake one and that a new list was concocted by the leadership ostensibly to favour a particular candidate who suffers dearth of acceptance by the people of the Delta Central Senatorial District. At the risk of immodesty, Hon Napoleon Obukowho Gbinije, is the most generally accepted aspirant by the people but we have it on records that the powers that be in the party felt threatened by the soaring popularity of Gbinije and decided to compel their new delegates to vote against their victim. As accreditation went on, the political arm-twisting became more glaring as unknown faces were brought in as delegates while the names of the original delegates were expunged from the list to enable Ezeagwu’s game plan scale through. As a loyal party member, Gbinije advised his disenfranchised followers to be calm and orderly to avoid a would have being bloodshed on that fateful day. At the end of the day in a clinical efficiency, we felt the hand of Essau and heard the voice of Jacob in a grand orchestra of deceit called primaries grossly manipulated to produce a weakling. In view of the above, GCO hereby condemn in its entirety the primaries conducted by the Ezeagwu led-DPP. It was an orchestra of deceit. It was fraught with gross manipulation by one man who felt he is the DPP and so must call the shot at all times irrespective of what party members feel. DPP is suffocating under the dictatorship of just one man who has decided to betray the hope and aspirations of the entire Urhobo race. Therefore, the GCO is considering so many actions within the ambit of the law subject to consultation with our teeming followers in Urhobo land and in few days from now we shall make our decision which may not exclude seeking a redress public. The DPP has murdered sleep and it shall not enjoy peace until sanity and sanctity of members of the party is restored in a manner that shows equality of all members as against the criminal dictatorship of one man in the party. As a responsible Urhobo son, Gbinije’s stance is premised on the fact that the good people of Urhobo land has been shortchanged once again by those who preach transparency and positive change. Our people must be liberated from the scourge of dictatorship and mental slavery brought about by one man show in the name DPP. We cannot afford to surrender our people via sham party primaries to another poor representation in the Upper Legislative Chambers of the National Assembly by fielding a neophyte whose aspiration is to make wealth using the numerical strength of our people. On the side of the masses of our people we stand. We stand against oppression, we stand against dictatorship, we represent popular mandate, and we stand on the side of the good people of Urhobo nation. On democracy we stand!
