September 8: Gathering of the Waters Service Returns! For several years we have been unable to offer our popular "Gathering of the Waters" inter- generational "Ingathering" service. Now we return to our practice of inviting one and all to bring water, either real or symbolic, to our services on the second Sunday in September. Not intended as a travelogue or "What I did over my summer vacation," the Gathering of the Waters asks those who choose to participate to briefly share with the congregation an experience over the last few months that was inspiring, transformational, spiritual, and meaningful. The water you bring should be associated with that experience and will be poured into a communal vessel. It is a simple but moving opportunity for learning about the sometimes joyous, sometimes heartbreaking events which have effected us as individuals or as families this summer. For that reason, our children and youth are invited to take part. In these last few months occurrences both happy and sad have transpired in the lives of many church members, so this ritual seems especially important and appropriate for us to share with one another as we gather together again.
