Today’s Program Mariah Seymour and Josh Duman, SRU Rotaract Members Mariah and Josh are both Senior Music Ed Majors at SRU and proud founding members of the campus Rotaract Club who are both from the same hometown of Ebensburg, PA. Since becoming involved in Rotaract, they both agree it has changed their lives and how they feel about helping others and their community. They feel they have become more passionate and thoughtful and seem to be always looking at ways to help others. First, they reviewed the projects of the Rotaract Club which included Dump and Run, Empty Bowls, and Clean Water Project. When they went home for summer break they wanted to become involved so, they attended the Rotary in Ebensburg and got to work. Josh spear headed an effort at the elementary school he works at in Nanty-Glo to renew their classroom gardens which had fallen by the wayside over the past several years. They talked about Highway Cleanup and have made application to clean 173, our current location, so Rotary and Rotaract can work together on this project. They would like to start a Twin club. This would entail finding another Rotaract Club in a different country to look at projects they could team up and work with. They will be discussing this adventure at their meeting this evening. In January, back in Ebensburg, they will be holding a concert to raise funds for a scholarship. Last year they had a concert, with little prep and advertising and they were able to raise $1700 so they feel really good about next years. They have made contact with Ebensburg Rotary and will invite the public. They are known as the JAM (Josh, A.J. (A third Rotaractor from Ebensburg), and Mariah) Trio, to the Rotary back home and because of their enthusiasm and determination, things are really happening. They also want to make contact with the Interact Club at their high school to encourage them to join Rotaract and if there is not an Interact Club, they would like to start one. Upon graduation, they would both like to move to Prague for a year to teach English. They will need $9000 and are asking if we can help in any way. Please see attachment TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language) Prague for further information. They both have offered themselves up as Liaisons between the Rotary and Rotaractors. They said they would be starting a Rotaract Blog which we can go to and keep up on what they are doing. They waste no time as their blog was up by the end of the day. If you want to check it out go to: srurotaract.blogspot/ It is so refreshing to listen to Mariah and Josh talk about their Rotary experience and how it has changed the way they look at life and greatly enhanced their desire to help others in any way they can. They are both very energetic and excited about what lies ahead of them and a great encouragement to those in their path.
