September has been quite the turbulent month filled with many highs and lows. It feels somewhat unsettling to be making fun memories and new friends at conventions etc… when my friends Ben and Mac have both lost their mothers and I myself just lost a cousin and my grandmother isn’t doing so well. But that’s life I suppose. When I lost Mary Kay I never thought I could ever be happy again and yet I now have Connor so despite the deepest of sorrows the greatest joys have kept coming. While I grieve for myself and for my friends and family I do so knowing first-hand that in the end you just do what is in front of you and enjoy the time you have with the precious people around you. In that respect I am so very lucky to do what I do for a living. During this turbulent month I have added to my circle those I would call my new “Dragon Con Friends” and after this weekend my new “Ventura Con Friends.” And who knows over time how many of those will become even closer than that. Not unlike those friends I have known for many years. Those whom I have shared both tears and laughter. Those whom the word family is more appropriate. The family I have, and the family I choose… BOTH remind me every day just how lucky I am. I am sorry for these rough times I, my friends and my family are currently going through and yet I can’t help but marvel at how good life can be.
