September is in the rearview mirror. It ended up being one of the nicest months this year, being fairly mild and dry. The last few weeks have been beautiful. As Ive been saying we will have a powerful cold front moving across the Northeast Friday and Saturday, with reinforcing shots of cold air into the first part of next week. The pattern that controlled our weather this year, will be returning. Higher elevations in the Rockies will pick up snow behind the front, with snow showers likely across the northern Plains and into the Great Lakes over the next few days. The air over the Midwest and Mississippi Valley will be very unstable tomorrow, once the front pushes into that unstable air mass, Severe thunderstorms are going to explode along the front , from the upper Midwest all the way down to Texas. And as I already said on my weather outlook, all of this will swing into the East and Northeast later Friday into Saturday, while a lot of severe weather is not anticipated, there could be storms on the strong side. Were 8 days into Astronomical fall, and already the trees are ablaze with fall color. The dry conditions across parts of the Northeast are causing the leaves to fall off the trees quickly. The coming weekend and the front will signal the returning pattern and the arrival of autumn. I am a bit concerned with the gusty winds that will accompany the front Friday and Saturday...it could rip leaves from the trees, in several areas...especially where it has been very dry. As I said in my blog post, October will see swings between cool and warm spells...but make no mistake.... this weekend into next week will mark the beginning of our slide toward winter.
