Sequester hits Military and future cuts for DoD. Reading news next to the opinion page, where most people skip; our Government officials are playing politics coming through the back door. The government appears to be setting up the field of play in their favor, but why not; they make the rules and reap the benefits. Nobody can challenge them. The Senate and Congress have managed to get excused from having to purchase insurance through Obama Care or officially called “Affordable Care Act”. Their excuse was they could not afford it, while most of America makes less than 40K per year; Government Officials make upward to 176K. And nobody is saying anything. The Government is also talking about changing privileges that retirees and active duty receive through commissary and health benefits. They want to impose paying taxes on commissary purchases and have retirees purchase private insurance from their employers. As far as retiree health care goes, there is already a shortage of Doctors who will not accept Tricare Prime patients’ downtown. With on coming Obama care health plan, there have been a number of doctors closing their doors. Health care premiums are raising and the government in DC is getting an exemption; they want the retired military personal to take up the slack. Post Exchange (PX) is supposedly a Hedge Fund owned by (I’m not for sure on this, just rumor) retired generals and select sergeant majors. Though the items sold in these stores are priced high, with name brands that are in currently in style. This too is tax free for now. The military has severed this country well. If they want to start making cuts, they should start with the free subsidies like Obama phones and welfare cards that unemployed are using; the ones who are riding around on big shinny wheels with new tennis shoes that I cannot afford and the likes of such. This should not be about the Military or Retirees; it is about the civilian population being burdened with additional taxes. When are the people going to stand up and say we have had enough? The Government exempts themselves from laws they write to justify having done work as to passing new laws. For over 200 years since the founding and the Constitution, we should have enough rules to live by. What we need is a new leader to remove about 530 people from government, tar and feather them so the next ones coming in will do the right thing. David Sikes Retired US Army
