Seria A Matchday 6 Preview --------------------------------------- Verona Vs Cagliari Despite a valiant effort Verona were beaten at the Olimpico against a high flying Roma side. Cagliari pulled off the shock Serie A result last weekend by taking full advantage of a 10 man Inter squad to record a historic 1-4 at the San Siro. While this result will certainly have given the Sardinians a much needed boost they will have a tough time in Verona, who I am backing to win. ——————————————————————————————————————————————————————————- Milan Vs Chievo The Rossoneri were held on their travels to Cesena last weekend after an Abbiati blunder allowed the home side to take an early lead. Inzaghi’s men soon equalised but looked sluggish throughout and were reduced to ten men in the last 15 minutes return to Milan with a point. Chievo were pretty poor after Empoli managed to hold out for a draw and the side from the tiny hamlet just outside Verona really need to start gathering points if they are to survive another season in the Serie A. I predict a home win. ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Empoli Vs Palermo Empoli did well to earn a hard earned point on their travels to fellow relegation candidates Chievo while Palermo were quickly reminded how tough the Serie A is when they were downed by Lazio by four unanswered goals. Score draw expected. ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Lazio Vs Sassuolo Lazio put on a superb display to thrash Palermo in Sicily, with Djordjevic grabbing a hat-trick, and the Biancocelesti going on to record their second win of the season. Sassuolo were powerless to stop Napoli from defeating them on their home soil as they fell to the bottom of the Serie A standings on goal difference. Lazio really need to win this and I am backing them to do so. ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Parma Vs Genoa Parma were comfortably beaten on their travels to Udinese as their dreadful start to the season continued and they remain among the bottom three. Genoa were left reeling after they lost out in the local derby to rivals Sampdoria. The home side have had no problems scoring but have already conceded 14 goals this season and they will fancy their chances if they can keep the back door shut. ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Sampdoria Vs Atalanta Sampdoria were absolutely solid as they downed their bitter rivals Genoa in their own backyard to climb to 3rd in the standings. Mihajlovic has really done wonders with his limited squad, who’s players have really learnt how to win. Despite a valiant display, Atalanta spurned their chance to equalize against Juventus after Denis missed a penalty only for Tevez to score at the other end moments later to put the game out of their reach. I expect an exciting game but considering the home teams form I am backing a home win. ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Udinese Vs Cesena Udinese maintained their impressive run of form and most pundits will agree that coach Stramaccioni has done an excellent job to date. Cesena put on a brave performance to hold off a determined Milan side to earn a valuable point. Home win expected. ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Juventus Vs Roma Sunday afternoon sees the clash between Italy’s two top teams as they fight for 1st place in the standings as well as bragging rights. Even though we are still early in the season whoever wins at the Juventus stadium might be considered favorites to go on and lift the Scudetto come May. Expect a hotly contested game in Turin with plenty of attacking flair and grit and I am abcking Juventus to win this. ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Fiorentina Vs Inter Both these sides have had an extremely sluggish start to their respective campaigns considering all the hype and expectations over the summer. Fiorentina have won just one of their opening five games and were held on their travels to Torino last week, while Inter were humiliated at the San Siro by bottom side Cagliari after they conceded three soft goals minutes after the sending off of Nagatomo. La Viola will see this as an opportunity to bounce back against this inconsistent Nerazzuri side. Home win expected. ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Napoli Vs Torino While being far from spectacular, Napoli recorded their second win of the season when they beat a weak Sassuolo side on their travels. Torino were held at home by Fiorentina as their stuttering start continued. Il Toro have really lacked the speed and precision of Immobile and Cerci upfront and will be in for a long season if they are not replaced in January. I expect Benitez’s side to record their second win on the trot.
