Serving our community is part of being a good citizen. For harmonious living, we need to support and help people, animals, and plants sharing this earth with us. Being of service is being a good citizen, we also feels good by helping others. When we do something for others, without expecting anything in return, we turn our actions into offerings. There are many ways to be of service to our community. There are kinds of services which may not be thought of as being act of service. Learning a new language such as sign language so that you can talk to more people is a way to reach out to others. Offering to babysit for a busy parent, or donating pet food to an animal shelter are simple ways to offer your services to your community. There are many ways that you can serve the world. The impact we will have on the environment if we pick up one piece of trash off the street everyday and chose not to drive our car once a week. Even throwing flower seeds onto a vacant lot can brighten the lives of others and also lives of birds and insects. Everyday, you can do something to make this world a better place. This can be a wonderful way to start your day. Smiling at a stranger who looks downcast or teaching your neighborhood kids. Giving of yourself is the best gift that you can give.
