Setting Survival Goals by Kevin Wixson Have you ever had issues with getting a portion, or an entire survival plan, off the ground? We discuss various ways of attacking and handling getting your gear together and making the necessary arrangements to stock and store supplies, as well as learn and practice essential survival skills. When we begin considering developing a prepper plan, or give serious thought to making additions to our survival strategies, one of the things that might help us remain focused on the tasks at hand is setting survival goals for ourselves. Setting survival goals can be done a few different ways; however if you are using the same methods in setting survival goals as you are for getting things down right now, and that isn’t working very well for you, then setting survival goals probably isn’t going to work out as you desired either. There are several reasons that prepper plans fail. Individuals can find themselves adopting an armchair prepper problem more rapidly if they haven’t properly engaged in setting survival goals. When you begin setting survival goals, make an in depth list of what those goals are. Simple checklists to indicate whether or not an item has been purchased will help keep you focused on what you have, as well as what you need to get next. Setting survival goals with a checklist of this nature should incorporate levels of importance. For instance if you are setting survival goals for securing items for your bug out bag, arrange them in the order you would like to obtain them. Use additional checklists when setting survival goals to indicate where specific items are stocked and/or stored. When a SHTF situation erupts, the last thing you need to be concerned with is where everything is, which bug out bag has what gear in it, and where miscellaneous items might need to be grabbed from. If you have checklists on hand, then you can rest easier knowing that you’ve been setting survival goals correctly. Schedules are also an excellent option to consider when setting survival goals. Instead of simply making laundry lists of awesome gear and supplies you would like to have, assign a date by which these topics should be addressed. If all you use when setting survival skills are undated checklists, then you could find yourself seriously behind the 8-ball when the SHTF. Schedules will help keep you on top of your prepper planning efforts, rather than allow you the luxury of procrastinating. When you decide that setting survival goals is going to help you more effectively handle the various aspects of adopting this type of lifestyle, than you also need to sit down and go over your financial portfolio. If you do not have the finances to obtain the gear and goodies that you want and need, then every other part of setting survival goals will take a back seat. You need to address where your current finances are being exhausted from first. Look for additional ways to fund your prepper plans if you need to supplement your financial resources to get actively engaged in becoming a credible survivalist. Setting survival goals is going to be slightly different for each and every person, and will likely depend on their personal concerns and living conditions, as well as the financial position they are currently in. Setting survival goals is no different than setting goals for our daily lives and activities; it is something we should all be somewhat familiar with. Setting survival goals helps keep us organized, focused and constantly moving forward to that desired level of self-reliance we are all striving for.
