Seun Kuti was born on 11 January 1983. Seun is a Nigerian and the youngest son of legendary afrobeat pioneer Fela Kuti who died in 1997. Seun leads his fathers former band Egypt 80. The Fela Kuti sound was very influential of Talking Head’s recording of Remain In Light. I saw Seun at Bluesfest 2014 and was thrilled by his performances of modern Afro-Jazz. Seun has continued where his father stopped, both musically and politically. After Fela had died Seun as a 14 years old, became the lead singer of Egypt 80, a band that at time can have up to 20 odd members. For those unaccustomed with Afrobeat it is rhythmic and unrelenting. The groove is hypnotic, percussive and the vocalizations reminiscent of African tribal chants. Egypt 80’s longevity enables them to portray a precision and cohesion that is rare with such a large number of musos on stage together. They never miss a beat and seem to always know exactly what every member is doing. As Molly says “do yourself a favour”…get in to Seun Kutiu & Egypt 80!! https://youtube/watch?v=YED4sf6b9r4&index=11&list=RDRA2odH2wtXw
