Several outbreaks of Equine Influenza have recently been repoted in the UK by the AHT. Please been on the look out for influenza signs which include dry, harsh cough, raised temperature, watery nasal discharge, lack of appetite, lethargy, muscle soreness and painfull glands under the jaw. Influenza spreads rapidly, due to a combination of a short incubation period of one to three days and coughing during the early stages of the disease. The virus is transmitted by direct horse to horse contact and indirect contact via humans, tack, feed and equipment. Please check you passports and make sure your horses are upto date and protected. If in any doubt call the office 01386 853 884 and they can check you records.
