Several people have asked me what I think about the whole Kaci Hickox thing, so here ya go: Do I think shes contagious? No. Do I think her most recent publicity stunt -- I mean bike ride -- put the general public at risk? No. Do I respect the work she has done in Africa? Absolutely. Do I think she needs to shut her face-hole, stop being a publicity whore, and park her ass at home for the next three weeks? YES. Why? Shes a nurse, one specifically trained in and familiar with Ebola. People look to that kind of medical personnel for guidance regarding medical concerns. So while Im sure she is capable of deciding whether it is safe to venture into pubic, the layperson is not. She is setting a poor and dangerous example. She says shes negative and has no symptoms. Fine. What happens when some layperson somehow gets infected but only has a little fever or still feels fine and decides they dont have to be in quarantine? No, Ebola is not that easy to catch. Its also pretty awful. Its three weeks. Relax. Read a book. Brush up on knitting. Bang your boyfriend for hours on end. Do whatever, but STAY HOME. Set a good example. Dont be a firefighter who ignores a fire drill because they already know what to do.
