Severe Storms To Push Through Great Lakes, Northeast UPDATED 4:15 PM EDT, July 19, 2013 UPDATED By WeatherBug Meteorologist, Chad Merrill A cold front will bring a fresh round of severe weather to the Great Lakes and Northeast to close the workweek. The slow nature of the front will bring more storms to some of the same places Saturday while the threat expands south into the Ohio Valley. Storms are lining up just south of the front from Michigan`s Upper Peninsula to northern Maine this afternoon. As the cooler, drier air meets the increasingly warm, humid air surging north from the Gulf of Mexico, these storms will grow in size and intensity as they slide south and east. Due to this threat, Severe Thunderstorm Watches have been issued for northern Michigan and parts of the Northeast, including the cities of Grand Rapids, Mich., Massena, N.Y., Burlington, Vt., and Bangor, Maine. Milwaukee, Chicago, Fort Wayne, Ind., Cleveland, Detroit, and Buffalo, N.Y., could also see threatening skies this evening. Hail larger than golf balls and wind gusts exceeding 58 mph will be the main threats.
