Severe Weather Warning - NSW 2 SHARE AND TAG FAMILY AND FRIENDS for damaging winds, heavy rainfall and damaging surf for people in the Metropolitan, Hunter, Illawarra and South Coast forecast districts HEAVY RAIN, DAMAGING WINDS AND DAMAGING SURF FOR THE HUNTER, CENTRAL COAST, SYDNEY, ILLAWARRA AND SOUTH COAST ON TUESDAY. Weather Situation A low currently located over the Tasman Sea extends a low pressure trough towards the Illawarra. During the evening this trough will continue to move northwards, reaching Sydney in the evening with a strong and gusty southerly change and some gales possible along the coastal fringe. As the trough moves north a small low pressure centre will develop off the Sydney coast this evening then move to the Hunter coast overnight. The low will slowly move further offshore during Wednesday, with conditions expected to ease during Wednesday morning. DAMAGING WINDS around 60 to 70 km/h with peak gusts of 90 to 110 km/h are forecast for the coastal fringe of the Illawarra and northern parts of the South Coast, extending to the coastal fringe of the Metropolitan and Hunter forecast areas this evening. Thunderstorms and heavy rain which may lead to FLASH FLOODING are forecast for parts of the Illawarra and northern parts of the South Coast forecast districts this afternoon, and developing for coastal parts of the Metropolitan and Hunter districts this evening and for the early hours of Wednesday. Widespread falls of 40 to 60mm are expected in these areas, with locally higher falls of 100 to 150mm. VERY HEAVY SURF which may lead to localised damage and coastal erosion is forecast for the Metropolitan, Hunter, Illawarra and South Coast forecast districts. Beach conditions in these areas could be dangerous and people should stay well away from the surf and surf exposed areas. 127mm of rainfall was recorded in the 24 hours to 9am at Narooma. 119mm of rainfall has been recorded at Ulladulla and 137mm at Lake Conjola between 9am and 4pm this morning. At Lake Conjola 99mm of this fell in 2 hours between 1:15 pm and 3:15 pm. A 106 km/h wind gust was recorded at Ulladulla at 4pm. The State Emergency Service advises that people should: Move vehicles under cover or away from trees. Secure or put away loose items around your house, yard and balcony. Keep clear of fallen power lines. Dont drive, ride or walk through flood water. Keep clear of creeks and storm drains. If you are trapped by flash flooding, seek refuge in the highest available place and ring 000 if you need rescue. For emergency help in floods and storms, ring your local SES Unit on 132 500.
