***Severe Weather Warning*** HEAVY RAIN, DAMAGING TO DESTRUCTIVE WINDS AND DAMAGING SURF FOR THE HUNTER, CENTRAL COAST, SYDNEY AND ILLAWARRA ON TUESDAY NIGHT AND EARLY WEDNESDAY. DESTRUCTIVE WINDS around 80 to 90 km/h with peak gusts of 130 to 160 km/h are forecast for parts of the Metropolitan and Illawarra forecast districts. DAMAGING WINDS around 30 km/h with peak gusts of 90 km/h are forecast for parts of the Hunter forecast district. VERY HEAVY SURF which may lead to localised damage and coastal erosion is forecast for parts of the Illawarra, Metropolitan and Hunter forecast districts. Beach conditions in these areas could be dangerous and people should stay well away from the surf and surf exposed areas. Thunderstorms and heavy rain which may lead to FLASH FLOODING are forecast for the Metropolitan forecast district and parts of the Hunter and Illawarra forecast districts. A separate Severe Thunderstorm Warning was current for the Sydney Metropolitan area at the time of issue. The Severe Weather Warning for the South Coast forecast district has been cancelled, but the situation will continue to be monitored and further warnings will be issued if necessary. 119mm of rainfall has been recorded at Ulladulla and 137mm at Lake Conjola between 9am and 4pm this morning. At Lake Conjola 99mm of this fell in 2 hours between 1:15 pm and 3:15 pm. A 161 km/h wind gust was recorded at Wattamolla 9:02pm. A 106 km/h wind gust was recorded at Ulladulla at 4pm. The State Emergency Service advises that people should: * Move vehicles under cover or away from trees. * Secure or put away loose items around your house, yard and balcony. * Keep clear of fallen power lines. * Dont drive, ride or walk through flood water. * Keep clear of creeks and storm drains. * If you are trapped by flash flooding, seek refuge in the highest available place and ring 000 if you need rescue. * Beware of fallen trees or debris on the road. For emergency help in floods and storms, ring your local SES Unit on 132 500. The next warning will be issued by 5:00 am EDT Wednesday.
