GALE FORCE WIND AND HEAVY SURF IMPACTING SOUTH COAST ON FRIDAY. Weather Situation A complex low pressure system over the eastern Bass Straight is deepening as it moves slowly into the southwestern Tasman Sea. Gusty gale force wind and heavy surf are likely at times along coastal parts of the South Coast during Friday. Damaging winds around 65 km/h with peak gusts of up to 100 km/h are forecast to develop over coastal parts of the South Coast forecast district during Friday afternoon and evening. Heavy surf, with significant wave heights around 4 to 5 metres, may lead to dangerous surf conditions for the South Coast forecast district during Friday, hazardous for coastal activites such as swimming, surfing and rock fishing. The State Emergency Service advises that people should: Move vehicles under cover or away from trees. Secure or put away loose items around your house, yard and balcony. Keep clear of fallen power lines. For emergency help in floods and storms, ring your local SES Unit on 132 500.
