Sgt W here from Tennent St NPT I have been out doing some security patrolling this evening with colleagues from response here at Tennent St. We were up at the parade at Ardoyne/Woodvale, which Im pleased to say went off peacefully. We then spent a period of time dealing with some young people who were causing some distress to local residents at the Flax Centre and in the Havanas and Jamaicas areas of Ardoyne. My colleagues in the Oldpark NPT had been looking at this last week, and we will continue to try to deal with it. A lot of kids were actually fine, but the ones causing trouble were dispersed. We are looking at trying to make some medium term changes to the site, but the young people involved, and their parents, need to take some responsibility. I spoke to a few and asked them how their grandparents would feel if they had a crowd shouting and drinking outside their house, and they admitted that wouldnt be good. As I have said before, we dont want to have to get young people into the criminal justice system, but this is the risk that the young people are taking. Everyone needs to work together on this one, including council, youth providers and parents.
