David Paynes recently acquired French import Terrubi will not contest the 2014 Caulfield Cup after the Rosehill trainer decided against paying up for second declarations.Terrubi is due to arrive at Werribees equine quarantine centre in Melbourne this Saturday where Payne will inspect the horse before deciding on the next course of action. The son of Dalakhani remains in contention for a Melbourne Cup start however the horses condition has been placed under the spotlight in recent weeks. At his latest start, Terrubi emerged with a minor back injury after finishing last in the Group I Grosser Preis Von Baden (2400m) in Germany on September 7.Payne subsequently advised Racing Victoria stewards that the horse was unlikely to take part in the Caulfield Cup and Melbourne Cup.Last week, Payne told Sky Racing Radio that Terrubi was a little bit light in condition and suggested that the horse may be saved for the autumn carnival instead.Terrubi raced 10 times in Europe and prior to his failure at Baden-Baden, he won the Group II Prix Maurice de Nieuill (2800) at Longchamp on July 13.
