Shabby condition of sports stadium: Protestors blocked highway for hours =>Scores of sports lovers Thursday blocked Srinagar-Jammu highway near Kadlabal Pampore and raised slogans against the government over the shabby condition of sports stadium. The protestors carrying placards and banners alleged that present government completed neglected the said stadium and despite repeated requests from the local youth did not take any measures to restore the glory of the stadium. Eyewitnesses told CNS thousands of passengers including some top bureaucrats got stranded on the highway for hours due to the protest. Protestors stopped the cavalcade of PDP president Mehbooba Mufti and brought the matter into her notice. Eyewitnesses said that in a bid to pacify the protestors, Mehbooba Mufti tried to came out from her vehicle but retreated after some youth shouted slogans against her. “We don’t know who people raised the slogans that forced Mehbooba Mufti to retreat. We were expecting that being the member parliament she would assure help to restore the glory of the stadium, but nothing happened,” a protestor Farooq Ahmed told CNS adding that due to foul smell emanating from the garbage lying in the stadium, people are suffering badly. Police and Para-military troopers reached on spot and after the positive assurance from police including DC Kulgam Jehangir Ahmed Mir whose vehicle also stranded in the traffic jam, protestors dispersed peacefully.
