Shakes explains Kermit snub Newly appointed Bafana Bafana coach Shakes Mashaba has explained why he left out Kermit Erasmus from the squad to play Sudan and Nigeria in the upcoming Afcon qualifiers. Mashaba said unfortunately the Orlando Pirates ace only found his true goal-scoring form after the national squad was announced in Cape Town on 22 August. “The main criteria for selection is current form, but most unfortunately we have already selected the team,” said Mashaba. Erasmus has scored four goals in his last three matches for Pirates, and looks poised to continue causing damage in the Absa Premiership as well as in the MTN8. “If he [Erasmus] continues the way he is playing now, he definitely stands a good chance of coming into the team,” Mashaba added. “Like I indicated, all players that show commitment and passion in their play will get a chance and come here [to Bafana]. But the main thing that we are looking for is patriotism.
