Shame on you!!! This happened at Salvation Army on Mountain Road in Moncton NB. Please read and share! Yesterday my husband and I witnessed something that we feel needs to be told. While at the Salvation Army Retail on Mountain rd, an obvious homeless man entered the store having walked the soles off of his shoes, all of his earthly belongings on his back.... He was not of the best hygiene, each time he talked to staff they made stink faces and plugged their noses as he walked away, this was an honest reaction to his grooming but what happened next was unbelievable .... He asked to speak with a manager to see if he could receive the pair of shoes at no cost. The assistant manager told him to go find a cheeper pair of sneakers because the shoe/ boots he had picked were too expensive. He tried to explain that sneakers were not going to last him in this weather and would not be safe or warm . She very rudely continued to tell him no that the 11.99 was to expensive and to find cheeper sneakers. In 1914-1917 my grandmother was one of the first women educated by Salvation Army, the are the most amazing charity I have supported and received support from during my mothers cancer treatment... They are the best in my books, but yesterdays performance by the assistant manager has broke my faith, why within our family we continue to donate everything to them... We purchased the shoes for him and told him to pay it forward sometime in his life, and God bless. He was a soft polite soul, and was so grateful he cried. Today I will spend the day going thru my families clothing and we will search for this man and give him shoes and clothes, maybe instead of donating to these retail locations we should become more proactive and reach out directly to those in need.
