Share from our friends BAD RAP, Aurora, Colorado reconsiders its breed ban today. Dogs have walked by our sides for thousands of years. They enhance the human experience and offer valuable lessons about our connection to the natural world and our role and responsibilities as stewards. When city leaders enact restrictive policies that target dogs based solely on appearance, they compromise the lessons we’ve learned from our long history with canines and public safety goals suffer. In Aurora CO, the yearly tally of severe dog bites has not changed since pit bulls were banned in 2006. As ColoRADogs likes to say, ‘Responsible ownership is not breed specific.’ We stand with them and the many others who are counting on Aurora city leaders to embrace the goal of public safety by repealing the current breed ban in favor of a breed neutral, behavior-based ordinance.
