Share this post to help raise awareness of the many types of bullying and ways we can address it. Today is National Day of Silence, dedicated to raising awareness of bullying. Penn State continues to lead research efforts to recognize and reduce bullying. A recent Penn State research study highlights that popular kids are equally bullied through “instrumental targeting” by social rivals. “We did find that students who are isolated do get bullied,” said co-author Diane Felmlee, a professor of sociology at Penn State. “However, for most students, the likelihood of being targeted by aggressive acts increases as a student becomes more popular, with the exception of those at the very top.”
