Shared from my friend Tony Agro, and edited a little.. and, no matter where you are, or what scene you are in, this is still true.. Life changing things can happen when you support your local music scene!! Dear potential concert-goer that complains about ticket prices: Heres what you likely dont know: 1) EVERYTHING IS CONTINGENT ON ATTENDANCE! Event organizers depend on ticket sales for local bands, and the more tickets a band sells, the more the band will be booked again and again. We cant be booking shows if people dont buy tickets to walk through the door. That is how a lot of bands get paid for their time and energy,, and its usually only a small percentage. Well known bands have high guarantees. If you dont walk through that door, the venue doesnt make money. If the venue doesnt make money, the artists dont make money. If the artists dont make money, THEY WONT COME BACK. 2) If one show does well, the word travels among other bands in the scene, influencing them to choose your city over any other city around. 3) Dont believe what used to be true in the 1980s: Musicians make next to NOTHING for music sales. If you like a band, go to their show, buy their merchandise, invite your friends. Bands risk everything to put on a show for YOU, the least you can do is support them when they come to town. 4) WORD OF MOUTH IS CRUCIAL, especially in our scene. If you like a band, make sure that everyone is well aware. Flyers say here, you throw this away, while an oral invitation says I acknowledge you and think you might enjoy this event. There are a TON of talented artists in our genre and we would love to keep bringing them to see you, but you also have to make an effort to see them. People that have promoted others events in the scene for the greater good, people that put their names on the line time after time again so you can see your favorite artists instead of just listening to them. Imagine what would happen if everyone had a fair work ethic and supported each other? We have some MAJOR acts rolling through this summer and, if it continues, the skys the limit. Please do your part to help our scene out. - Go to dance nights, talk to people, and DANCE - Go to live performances, and talk to people - Share events, tell your friends and most of all, BE YOURSELF.
