Historically speaking, workers getting two days off together doesnt show up until 1926. The 8-hour workday: not until 1938. Federal regulations of child labor? 1938 ...and retirement was something only rich people did until the 1940s. These things didnt just happen. Men and women DIED to make them happen. It required people being shot, beaten to death, hanged, and burned to death to get the things we take for granted today. Labor Day. Just like Veterans Day and Memorial Day, it salutes real heroes who fought and sometimes died.
