Sharing Workshop on REDD+ Readiness in Nepal Youth Alliance for Environment with support of WWF Nepal has organized a sharing Workshop on REDD+ Readiness in Nepal with a motive to share the updates of Capacity Building Program for Academia (2011 – 2014) on Climate Change and REDD+ with the faculty members from different universities of Nepal. Moreover the participants were also updated with the REDD+ Readiness in Nepal. Ms. Swasti Shrestha from YAE started the program with welcome speech. Then, Mr. Krishna D Hengaju, program coordinator of Capacity Building for Academia Presented the work done during the programs. He shared that more than 600+ academias were trained on Climate Change Adaptation, REDD+ and Forest Carbon Inventory and 60+ got the chance to engaged in the field activities in Forest Carbon Inventory and LAPA preparation process. Then Dr. Narendra Chand, undersecretary, from REDD Cell gave the Key note Presentation on REDD+ Readiness in Nepal. He presented the brief history of REDD, current status of REDD Readiness, activities going on, challenges and opportunities in REDD+. The Key note presentation was followed by Panel Discussion. Dr. Yadav P Kandel from WWF Nepal, Mr Basanta Gautam from Arbonaut Pvt Ltd, Finland and Mr Bhola Bhattarai from NAFAN were the panelist. Dr. Kandel briefed on the ERPIN – TAL. Similarly, Mr. Gautam shared about the reference Level in TAL and the remote sensing techniques like LiDAR in REDD+. Likewise, Mr. Bhattarai shared the CSOs involvement in REDD+ mechanism, the opportunities and challenges. The panel discussion was facilitated by Mr. Sanot Adhikari, Chairperson of YAE. After short briefing from the panelist the floor was opened for discussion. And finally the program was ended with the closing remarks from Mr. Krishna Prasad Acharya, joint Secretary of Ministry of Forest and Soil Conservation (MoFSC) The participants of the program were Prof. Dr. Subodh Sharma from Kathmandu University (KU), Dr. Bhupendra Devkota from College of Applied Science (CAS), Head of Department (HOD) and facultys members from different institutions like Central Department of Environment Science (CDES), Tribhuwan University (TU), Khwopa college, School of Environmental Science and Management (SchEMS) - Pokhara University, Golden Gate International college (GGIC), Trichandra (TC), Amrit Science College (ASCOL), Kathmandu Forestry College (KAFCOL).
