Sharing this mostly for my friends in the US. I have had couple contact me asking if were ok. Ottawa is 4 hours away from Toronto so at present were all fine but thank you for your concern. We are, however,very aware that this is the second such suspicious attack within the space of a few days and that Toronto is no doubt an attractive target in many ways to those who would have us live in fear. I will say this. This is NOT my country. This happened IN my country and has caused sadness to many WITHIN my country but we are different than this. We have never been a nation ruled by fear or paranoia. Nor are we a nation ruled by bloodlust and vengeful anger which is evidenced by the coverage of this tragedy that has been rightly and justly focused on the victims and those otherwise affected. We are still kind, still humane and still love each other and nothing will change that.
