Sharni Edwards is walking Sydney Memory Walk & Jog on Sunday 14 - TopicsExpress

Sharni Edwards is walking Sydney Memory Walk & Jog on Sunday 14 September with her dad, Bruce, who has dementia. As motivation for her training, Sharni has been posting a memory a day. We thought it was such a fantastic idea that weve shared some of Sharnis words and her post with you. #memorywalk It’s a chance to get together with my family and do something as a unit to not only acknowledge this disease, but to also feel as though even though we are struggling through this together, we are not alone. Sometimes it can feel very isolating even though you have close family around you. I wanted to actually do something tangible that would directly involve my father. As he slips away, there are less things he can be involved in, and I think (Memory Walk & Jog) is a fantastic thing. I want to open dialogue with other family members and friends (other than my sisters and mother) about all of this. I have begun walking every day (as of last week) getting ready for the event and after each piece of exercise I have posted on Facebook old photos and memories that I have of me and my Dad. This has been a strange thing. I have found support from so many of my friends and family, it has been really heart-warming. I have had other family members now joining our Team on the day, and such an outpouring of shared stories and love. Its actually been a really emotional journey so far (and its only the first week).
