Sharon Machesos husband defies court: KUDAKWASHE Munetsi, the estranged husband of Sharon Macheso, appeared in court yesterday after he failed to pay a $200 fine for domestic violence. A warrant of arrest was taken out against Munetsi on November 17, because he had breached the court’s order to pay the fine. He was supposed to serve four months in prison if he failed to pay the fine. Munetsi, who pummelled Sharon during a domestic altercation, was found guilty by regional magistrate Takunda Mtetwa. Two months were wholly suspended on condition he does not commit a similar offence within the next five years. During an application for cancellation of the warrant yesterday, Munetsi, through his lawyer Abisha Muzvaba, pleaded with the court to pardon him. He said he had travelled to Murehwa for counselling at the time. “My client was ordered to pay $200 before November 17 but failed because he travelled to his rural home immediately after the conviction, for rehabilitation and counselling. “He made arrangements for the money to be paid by his brother. My client only realised when he returned yesterday that his brother made the payment at the legal representatives’ offices.” The court heard Munetsi’s lawyers had mistakenly regarded the payment as cash for legal fees. He then made enquiries with the courts and realised that a warrant had been taken out. Mtetwa ordered Munetsi to pay the fine and a $20 penalty for defaulting the court’s order before his release – Daily News.
