Shashi Tharoor has been complaining that the media are out to frame him in the Sunanda Pushkar case. But, seriously, why would they want to do that? They typically eat out of his hand(s), and Shashi is very adept at handling anything thrown at him. With the arguable exception of Arnab Goswami -- whose aggressive and acuity I admire -- virtually all our media stars bend over backwards to accommodate Shashi Tharoor. He has the smarts, the looks, the experience, and the presence. My prediction (possibly clueless and non-informed): Nothing untoward is going to happen to Shashi. In a months time, everyone will hug everyone else, and it will be back to the love fest. Prime Minister Modi will induct Shashi into his Cabinet as Minister for External Affairs (no pun intended) or Minister for Overseas Indian Affairs (no pun intended), and that will be that. Shashi will need to put up with the media and political tamasha for a wee bit more, and then he can write his next best seller, if he hasnt started it already. His publishers must be licking their chops. His fans cannot get enough of Shashis writing, and justifiably so. His political foes must be grinding their dentures. His critics must be preparing to swallow their vitriol. And his women constituents must have begun tossing their keys into the eligibility turban to be picked as the next Mrs. Tharoor. (That would be Spouse Number Four.) A good time will be had by all except, of course, by Sunanda Pushkar. Reactions?
