Shaul vs. Paul Phil 3:7-8 But whatever things were gain to me, those things I have counted as loss for the sake of Christ. More than that, I count all things to be loss in view of the surpassing value of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and count them but rubbish so that I may gain Christ, Did Paul forsake his Jewish Roots and start a new religion called Christianity? Often times when I share people tell me of this story how on the road to Damascus after Shauls Yeshua encounter he became a Christian...Is that what the B.I.B.L.E says? Lets take a look at Pauls (Greek name) last trip to Jerusalem: Acts 21: 17-18 After we arrived in Jerusalem, the brethren received us gladly. And the following day Paul went in with us to James, and all the elders were present. The Jewish Believers of the apostolic community in Jerusalem we all Torah observant: Acts 21:20 And when they heard it they began glorifying G-d; and they said to him, “You see, brother, how many thousands there are among the Jews of those who have believed, and they are all zealous for the Law. Note: this should be a natural result of following a Jewish Messiah Then, people started spreading rumors, lies about my Brother from another mother! What were these horrible lies? Acts 21:21 they have been told about you, that you are teaching all the Jews who are among the Gentiles to forsake Moses, telling them not to circumcise their children nor to walk according to the customs (Traditions = Jewish Talmudic Customs). Paul was allegedlly teaching Jews outside of Eretz Yisrael: 1.Forsake Moses = Torah 2.Not to circumsize their children i.e. Breaking Covenant for Jews 3.Not to keep the customs (What most Sacred Namers, 2 House People, tell Jewish people to do) What did James propose for Paul to do? and why? Acts 21:23-24 We have four men who are under a vow (Nazirite Vow) ; take them and purify yourself along with them, and pay their expenses so that they may shave their heads; and all will know that there is nothing to the things which they have been told about you, but that you yourself also walk orderly, keeping the Law. The truth of the matter Paul was a Jew that had dual citizenship: Acts 22:24-26 the commander ordered him to be brought into the barracks, stating that he should be examined by scourging so that he might find out the reason why they were shouting against him that way. But when they stretched him out with thongs, Paul said to the centurion who was standing by, Is it lawful for you to scourge a man who is a Roman and uncondemned? When the centurion heard this, he went to the commander and told him, saying, What are you about to do? For this man is a Roman. Have you ever travelled? Imagine yourself in some anti-Western/Christian country about to get jacked up by the Taliban. As much junk as you talk about these United States of America when you see those Stars and Stripes, Youd quickly proclaim Immm Ammmericaannnn!! Likewise Paul used his Roman status to his advantage to spread the Gospel. In Rome Shaul was Paul. In Israel he was Shaul...
