She is a young and talented actress of television and film. She is part of the new wave of Hispanic entertainers that have successfully crossed over into the mainstream. She is highly regarded in the industry and a positive role model to girls and women. She began her career working as a teen. She landed her first major role in the critically and commercially successful indie film, Real Women have Curves. She followed up with How the Garcia Girls Spent Their Summer and the successful, Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants. She has had roles in other successful films such as, Under the Same Moon, The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2, The Dry Land, Our Family Wedding, How to Train Your Dragon, Its a Disaster, End of Watch and this years X/Y, How to Train Your Dragon 2 and Cesar Chavez. On television she served as host of the PBS series Independent Lens. She has made guest appearances on Touched by an Angel, CSI: Crime Scene Investigation and Years of Living Dangerously. She had a recurring role on The Good Wife. She starred in the tv films, Gotta Kick it Up and Plainsong. She will always be remembered for portraying the title character in the highly successful series Ugly Betty. Her work on the show garnered her both a Golden Globe Award and Emmy Award nomination and win.
