Shigurti news CECAFA is SIKIFTA! (Asmara 01-04-2014) The ministry of mine and industry confirmed this afternoon that the Eritreas national football team will not be taking part in forth coming regional tournament. The CECAFA Cup, that has locally come to be known as SIKIFTA Cup locally, has grabbed major international media interest in recent years as a result of the Team’s relentless effort to get their country on the map. However this interest and the ingenuity of the Team is too precious to be wasted and the government has decided to utilise the precious resource in garnering media interest for the fledgling mining sector. As a result the Ministry of Mining and Industry will put the footballers to work under the National Slavery Scheme and will invite International media to chronicle their exploits there. The press and media secretary for the ministry said: ’ we figured as the ultimate objective of the tournament is to earn gold, we could provide self-sufficient opportunities for our players to do precisely that; president Issias has been working with cabinet colleagues finalising this strategy and the motion was passed with 200% votes approving it’. Football supporters inside and outside the country are said to be thrilled by this effort to foil conspiracies of hegemonic western entities and deplored the efforts that have already started to conduct psychological warfare on Eritrea stating that this is to do with the tendency of footballers to not return home following FIKIFTA tournaments. Mrs Senbetu who follows events regularly from her home in America stated ‘yes SKIFTA has other objectives and our government is very clever and always do good in find what is in their dirty heart so what they do is good. More gold for us and less skifta for the government’. Meanwhile Mr Abdu who was a on a visit from Sudan said ‘everyone plays football here in Eritrea, I have never seen many good players anywhere I have lived, it is best that all future SKIFTA tournaments are played here. The various countries don’t even have to bring players if they are scared that they won’t return, all they have to do is pay these kids to play for them. I know how these things work I have seen it in Europe’ The people and government of Eritrea wish the tournament well and have urged all participants to work hard and foil Ethiopia’s dream of becoming a superpower in the region. end
