Shinde’s forced advice on Rahul, Think before you speak! Shinde - TopicsExpress

Shinde’s forced advice on Rahul, Think before you speak! Shinde appeared to have come up with the counsel for the Congress vice-president — and Narendra Modi, too — when he said politicians needed to choose their words with “care” during campaigns. “Advice” came in response to a question on how he saw Modi’s “khooni panja” statement and also Rahul’s comment that Pakistan’s spy agency ISI was trying to tap the anger of young victims of the Muzaffarnagar riots. “These statements should be made with care. Such statements should be within the ambit of the law,” Shinde told a media briefing. The Congress yesterday approached the Election Commission, objecting to Modi’s statement in Chhattisgarh referring to the “khooni panja” (bloody palm). The right-hand palm is Congress’s election symbol. Rahul’s statement that the ISI had been in touch with Uttar Pradesh riot victims had angered minority groups. The comments came in the run-up to elections in Delhi, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Rajasthan and Mizoram that has seen Modi unleash barbs at the Congress. Rahul has more or less stuck to listing his government’s achievements. Comments aimed at Modi have come mostly from his party colleagues. Earlier during the media interaction, however, Shinde had refused to comment on Rahul’s statement. But he blurted out what seemed to be straightforward advice when a reporter clubbed the statements of Rahul and the BJP mascot. Asked if his counsel was intended for Rahul, too, the minister said his statement was “specific” but refused to elaborate. Shinde made an apparently inadvertent comment in response to Modi’s allegation after the Patna rally that his opponents were letting the Indian Mujahideen (IM) target him. “If the IM were to do things at our behest, there would have been riots in the country,” Shinde said, leaving journalists wondering what he meant.
