Shiners final day: Shiner Bock, a faithful German Shepherd mix, was the best dog a man could want. Always loving, alert, loyal to the very end. We loved hiking the greenbelt, camping, fishing, and gardening. He was a great all around dog. I love my dog Shiner Bock, I live with my dog, all the time, he goes with me to work and everywhere, 24/7. We work on local and community gardens and to art shows and festivals. We have been constant companions for 9 years, since Valentines Day 2004. Then on Wednesday night, April 24th 2013, before midnight on a Full Moon, the Austin Police saw fit to enter private property (when there was no crime, warrant or investigation) and shoot Shiner Bock repeatedly as he ran away and cried for his life. They shot him to death, and then turned their guns on me and treated me like human inventory. While my dog bled to death on the concrete, they failed to save him or render aid. I was cuffed, treated like a criminal, yelled at in the middle of the night at my own space. Then I was surrounded by what seemed 10 or more Austin Police Officers and interrogated. Not one would answer any questions. Eventually the police told me that they were scared, and that they have the Right to shoot when scared. They always shoot to kill..... Scared when they were creeping, without warrant, trespassing on private property? Far away from the location of the construction site? inside a gate? and far onto the storage site? (The location of the complaint) After I watched my dog bleed to death, on the cold concrete, finally I was uncuffed and told that there was a 911 call on a noise next door, at the construction site, a piece of sheet metal they concluded was flapping in the wind, and that the officer has a right to shoot your dog if he is scared. Case closed. No harm done. 14 officers submitted reports backing the shooting, they allowed the Police to investigate themselves and the shooter got to keep his bullets. Only one was turned in. Multiple reports called my loving dog a dangerous or aggressive dog to help the Police justify their shooting. This could be your dog. They told me I was free to leave, I told them that I rent here, they are free to leave. The Policies of the Austin Police Department and local law enforcement agencies which allow them to take the lives of our dogs with a shoot to kill mentality are wrong, immoral and unethical and show a general disrespect for the People, their rights and their familys lives. Respect for life should be the primary concern of all law enforcement officers. We must be able to live Free. This is what our Founding Fathers outlined in the DOI, the Constitution and Bill of Rights. Freedom. Not cowardly shooting of our family members. Lets change this now, before its you or your loved one that is gunned down, without due process of Law. How many more have to die before we change this? Its past due if you ask me. All life is precious. I will stand up with all dog lovers and owners and we will stop this senseless killing of our loved dogs. And reveal the lies that APD uses to dismay the Public, called dis-info. I aim to make sure that dogs in Austin and beyond are saved from this disgusting misuse of lethal force. I aim to gain respect for life by Police. We must do better, our dogs and children are depending on us. If not now, when? If not you, who?
