Shootings’ main objective should be to have fun, however anyone - TopicsExpress

Shootings’ main objective should be to have fun, however anyone worth his or her gun powder knows that “hitting the target”, is fun and missing isn’t! Looking at it in this sense makes it very easy for us to practice our everyday shots or targets over and over. We very seldom miss these and that score card looks so good on the clubhouse bulletin board. But, are we really building our confidence, or ego? To consistently hit targets is rewarding and very important toward building self confidence. However, there comes a time that you have to ask this question, “Why do I always get beat when it really counts, and always by the same group of shooters?” The answer to this is more than likely that you love to shoot those everyday targets and bring in that nice score. So what’s the point? The group that always beat you during the competition very seldom return to the clubhouse after practice with a card worth posting. You see, that group of shooters went out to build confidence instead of ego! They attempted the long birds, the dropping birds, and the targets with the quick windows. Yes, those birds are hard to hit, but the more you hit them, the easier they become. You, as a competitive shooter, should be training for a marathon, not a charity walk. A marathon runner could run a mile a day for a year and be the fastest ever! But put him in a five mile race and see how he fairs. The bottom line is simple. Of course we need to experience success and hit a lot of targets to build our self confidence. But we also have to continue to increase our degree of expertise to ensure forward progress. The ultimate goal is to learn to be good at what we love to do--shoot a shotgun! Build your confidence by taking the harder birds, they will get easier as you begin to hit more and more. You may also find that “hitting the tough ones” not only builds confidence, but is a great ego booster too! Good shooting, KB Shooter
