Short Story Sunday: Resurfacing Part 4 Loki was awake most of night, his fingers drumming a rhythm on his chest. When Sigyn returned, she did not speak, and instead, went straight to bed. She lay beside him, listening to the rhythm. Finally, she rolled over and looked at him. “They had to find out sooner or later, Loki. The mortals would have known we had returned eventually,” Sigyn told him. “But did the kids have to make a scene?” Loki asked, giving voice to his frustration. “I don’t know who made more of a scene. Them for running away, or you for over-reacting,” Sigyn remarked. Loki propped himself up on his elbow and gave her a look. Sigyn shrugged and waited for him to reply. “They’re my children! Granted, not the only ones I’ve got, but their mine with you! They matter more to be than anything. They could have been hurt!” Loki said and Sigyn gently stroked his shoulder, soothing him. “Loki, they won’t be small forever. Nari’s thirteen, and already a big boy. He’s going to start dating soon, and how are you going to react to that? You’ll wig out before I will, and I’m his mother,” Sigyn said. “No, I’ll wig out when Nat brings home a date,” Loki responded and Sigyn laughed. Loki had to smirk a little, before shuddering at the thought of his little girl with some strange kid. “But they have to learn their way in this world like everyone else. You can guide them and help them, but you can’t hold their hands. Nari is the Nine Realm Paradox, and he must establish himself without you constantly hassling him,” Sigyn said and Loki sighed, propping his head up with his one arm. “But I still want to be a good parent,” Loki told her and Sigyn silenced him with a kiss. “You will be, if you know when to stop controlling,” she answered him. Loki looked at his wife and nodded. “Alright. So the next time Nat asks to sleep with Steve, I’ll say yes,” Loki said. Sigyn sat up so fast, her eyes were so wide, and the expression on her face was so ludicrous, that the only thing Loki could so, was laugh. The End NO COPYRIGHT INFRINGEMENT INTENDED!
