Short story: we had a choice of trails to walk in Lost Maples... we selected the West loop, 4.9 miles. Why? I dont know. At first, it was fun, taking bird pictures; and enjoying the scenery and mountains. Then, we were too far to turn back. We walked and walked... sometimes we felt like we were lost... some steep and rocky hills... we walked for hours rough trails and on the river bed... let me tell you, it was scary. We were alone and tired. Wifes ankles were hurting... We couldnt take it anymore. We decided to take a short cut, the service road. It turned out the service road was WORST! I thought I was going to end up carrying my wife but who was going to carry me? After a mile or so, we found the trail again. Let me tell you, we were exhausted and we still had a long ways to go. Finally, we made it to the parking lot. It was so nice to see Big Red, my truck. I said to my wife, tomorrow well walk the East loop (4.2 miles).... You dont want to know what she said.... LOL...... overall, it was a great visit at Lost Maples.
