Should Arsenal join the race for Man City’s Richards? There is - TopicsExpress

Should Arsenal join the race for Man City’s Richards? There is an interesting story for Arsenal fans concerning the Manchester City and England defender Micah Richards. If true, it could mean that the 24-year old may be for sale this summer, and I think that he is a player that would be fantastic at the Emirates. Richards has been in talks with the Man City hierarchy over the last few days. With just two years left on his current contract, City are keen for the right back to extend his deal as soon as possible, because his value will drop significantly next summer. According to Talksport, Richards has rejected the new contract on offer, alerting both of the Milan clubs in Serie A as well as Chelsea. If Richards really does want to leave City, possibly because of his lack of recent playing opportunities, I think that Arsenal should join that list and push hard to make him a Gunner. Sagna is either leaving soon or getting past his best, and Richards would be a great replacement. He can also cover at centre back if necessary, making the purchase of a new central defender unnecessary. It could mean, however, that Carl Jenkinson struggles for game time. We don’t know for sure if he is going to be sold. The rejection of his new contract could just be the opening gambit in the negotiations, or Richards could be waiting to see how things go this season and how he gets on with Manuel Pellegrini. If I was Arsene Wenger, though, I would be making a few phone calls to find out the lay of the land. Would you like Richards to be a Gunner, Gooners?
