Should I Avoid Being Served With A Law Suit? By Camy B. Schwam-Wilcox of Schwam-Wilcox & Associates, Attorneys at Law posted in General on Friday, September 5, 2014. A lot of people think that if they avoid being served with a law suit (divorce papers, civil suit, etc.) that they can prevent the matter from moving forward, that is not the case. It does not help your case if you avoid service. You can be served via publication, which means by taking an ad out in the newspaper and keeping it in there for four (4) consecutive issues of that publication. Not only will you see that you are being sued, but so will all of your friends, relatives and neighbors. If you ignore a law suit, it does not go away, and in some instances it can make your matter worse if time has passed, and you may lose out on potential defenses you may have had. No one expects you to deal with a law suit alone, you can benefit from the guidance the attorneys at Schwam-Wilcox & Associates can provide to you during your time of need, if it is just or a consultation to learn your rights, or for full representation, we are here to advise you.
