Should we be concerned about UKIPS success in the May 2014 - TopicsExpress

Should we be concerned about UKIPS success in the May 2014 elections? I find it quite astonishing how little people know about UKIP and even defend them claiming that there is nothing in their policies to suggest that they are racist, bigoted etc. A political partys policies are not the only thing that we should judge that party on. It is the party members that make up that party, are their representatives and are ultimately responsible for the policies that the party will produce. This is what concerns me about UKIP. Of course their policies will not be outright Racist, Xenophobic, Islamophobic etc. As this would make them no different from the openly racist BNP. We must keep in mind that UKIP are a relatively small political party (ie. have fewer members) in comparison to Labour and Conservatives so any problematic views that their members hold are a larger percentage representation of the party itself. Now, lets just look at some of the views of UKIP and its party members: XENOPHOBIC VIEWS The previous UKIP manifesto stated: Our traditional values have been undermined. Children are taught to be ashamed of our past. Multiculturalism has split our society. Political correctness is stifling free speech”. Their “Pocket Guide to Immigration” promises to “end support for multiculturalism and promote one, common British culture”. After attracting some negative publicity, it has disappeared from the current manifesto but can still be found in an archived copy. The ISLAMOPHOBIC statements by its party members are countless: Lord Pearson of UKIP was quoted to have said. The Muslims are breeding ten times faster than us,. I dont know at what point they reach such a number we are no longer able to resist the rest of their demands. UKIP MEP for the London region, Gerard Batten, espoused support for a ‘Charter on Muslim Understanding’, authoring the foreword to the document. The Charter requires Muslims to sign up to a commitment to denounce terrorism and render verses of the Qur’an which deal with “violent physical Jihad as inapplicable, invalid and non-Islamic until such a time as Islamic scholars are able to interpret them in line with prevailing liberal democratic norms. Former UKIP councillor for Lincolnshire council, Chris Pain, was investigated over alleged racist comments posted on his Facebook page: “Have you noticed that if you rearrange the letters in ‘illegal immigrants’, and add just a few more letters, it spells, ‘Go home you free-loading, benefit-grabbing, resource-sucking, baby-making, non-English-speaking ********* and take those other hairy-faced, sandal-wearing, bomb-making, camel- riding, goat-********, raghead ******** with you.” Eric Kitson, former UKIP councillor for Stourport, Worcestershire, was investigated last year over comments and cartoons posted on his Facebook page which showed a Muslim being spit-roasted on a fire fuelled by copies of the Qur’an and a further post, relating to Muslim women, with a caption “Hang ‘um all first then ask questions later.” Tony Nixon, a former UKIP canvasser in the North Yorkshire region was suspended from the party after comments posted on his Facebook page were discovered. In the posts, Nixon wrote: “Instead of turning Ground Zero into a mosque why not turn some mosques into ground zero?” He also posted a number of offensive images including a photograph of pigs eating copies of the Qur’an. Nixon was suspended from the party in May 2013 while subject to an internal investigation. On the question of Islamification, said Farage during a well-received speech, “we have to do a bit more to teach our children of the values of our Judeo-Christian society.”He proceeded to note that at least 20 police forces are turning a blind eye to the operation of Sharia Law and expressed admiration for countries which say: “You’re welcome to come here and to have your children here… but if you’re coming here to take us over, you’re not welcome.”. MISOGYNY A former UKIP female MEP Marta Andreasen, threatened to leave the party, labelling Farage as an “anti-women Stalinist dictator” whose view is that “women should be in the kitchen or in the bedroom”. This was no surprise. Farage once said in a Telegraph interview: “Lap dancing? Don’t have the time these days, but I used to go to them. Like it or not, they are a fact of life. You are talking about normal behaviour there. Everyone does it.” Then, asked about extra-marital affairs, he conceded: “Well, we’re all human. There is a big difference between that sort of thing and being really bad.” Nigel Farage boasts at the fact that UKIP is the only party that has banned BNP members from joining. However ask yourselves why would BNP party members want to join UKIP in the first place if they were that different to the BNP?! Lastly, if the above is not enough, consider UKIPs links with far right parties in Europe: UKIP is part of the group Europe of Freedom and Democracy (EFD). The group includes representatives of the Danish People’s Party, the True Finns Party, the Dutch SGP and the Italian Lega Nord, all of whom are far-right. Nigel Farage is actually the co-President of the group along with the infamous Lega Nord’s Francesco Speroni, who described multiple murderer Anders Breivik as someone whose “ideas are in defence of western civilisation. Mario Borghezio, also a member of the EFD, stated in a radio interview that Breivik had some excellent ideas. Farage’s reaction was to write a strongly-worded letter to Borghezio, asking him to withdraw his comments or UKIP would pull out of the EFD. Borghezio not only did not apologise, but responded with an extraordinary speech in which he raged: Long live the Whites of Europe, long live our identity, our ethnicity, our race… our blue sky, like the eyes of our women. Blue, in a people who want to stay white. Despite this Nigel Farage did not withdraw from the EFD. He continued to co-preside over it, along with the leader of the Lega Nord. MEP Nikki Sinclaire, however, was expelled from UKIP for refusing to take part in the EFD because of their “extreme views”. UKIPs success in these elections further highlights the importance of us participating in elections to keep the far-right parties out of government. Hopefully the turnout of Muslim voters for the General Elections next year will be much higher than in recent elections, InShaAllah...
