Show Us Our President – Saunders Political activist Dante Saunders has challenged State House to avail President Sata publicly in order to quell the current speculations regarding both his state of health and plans for health-related travel. Speaking in Lusaka, Saunders said a mere statement from State House that Sata was well in the office where he was performing his presidential duties was inadequate to convince Zambians that the president was safe. “The people saw during the previous rare public appearances that the president was frail and was not looking well. Now, a very strong rumour emerges that he has been rushed to some unknown destination abroad where he is seeking treatment should not just be challenged by such a casual statement. State House and indeed the whole government needs to act. This is why I Dante Saunders want to challenge the government and State House to show us the president that he is within the country so that our hearts can be at peace. We are having sleepless nights because of such speculations,” he said. Saunders a former close ally of Sata who fell out of favour after became president said Sata was a national asset and any malicious speculation about his health must be given the appropriate response that it deserved. He said the people who believed that Sata was abroad on a secret medical treatment plan were within their right to habour such speculations because the state had failed to prove that the president was available locally. “Perhaps people must start a hashtag to demand the state to show them their president. It is not malicious for anyone to say the president is abroad secretly because the state has failed to prove that he is not. The state has also failed to tell the people the health status of the president. There is nothing wrong with availing the people such details. He is the president of the country and the people deserve to know such details about their leader. This government must be responsible enough to honour up and put the interest of the country first than their personal aggradisement,” he said. Saunders said MMD president Dr Nevers Mumba was correct to suggest that the ruling Patrotic Front (PF) must allow Sata to rest because he had shown signs of inefficiency and inability to attend to national matters and events in the recent past. It is widely believed that President Sata is unwell owing to his current frail following a few public appearances he has made recently. This week, a story was circulating that the president had collapsed at State House and that he was rushed abroad using a foreign air ambulance for medical treatment. Following this expose, Sata’s spokesperson George Chellah issued a brief media statement that the president was very well and enjoying good health in State House where he was performing his duties. But now, Saunders wants Challah to parade Sata to prove that the president was indeed well and safe in State House. Other political leaders including UPND president Hakainde Hichilema have wished president Sata well. zambiareports/2014/05/29/show-us-president-saunders/
