Today I mailed you my copy of The Hobbit book and I would greatly appreciate it if you could autograph this for me. Also, I included a gift for you. It is a song I wrote after seeing The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug, called “There and Back Again.” After writing and recording it, I shared it with my fans and something wonderful happened that I could have never imagined… Gathering together they funded a trip for me to New Zealand in hopes that this song may find its way into your hands. Feeling immeasurably blessed by the love and support of so many, I flew out in May and traveled the country for three weeks alone, sleeping in my rental car, street performing in Wellington, showering in missions and enjoying the most beautiful place I have ever witnessed. I could have packed more underwear. Anyway, to finally go to New Zealand in May was a dream fulfilled, but I departed back to Texas in a way that felt incomplete. Even though the leap of faith I am told, inspired my friends to take bold leaps toward their own dreams, I still felt as if my one goal was unfinished. I have reached out in every respectable possible way to you and though my goal was to have “There and Back Again” in the The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies and be forever a part of the music of the Ainur, Howard Shores amazing scores and your wonderful movies, all I can ask now is that it just be heard. It deserves to be heard. Just knowing that you and Howard Shore have listened to it would fulfill me entirely and I could know I did my absolute best for my self, my fans and my daughter. I understand that you are sent all kinds of things from pictures of people’s cats posing as Frodo and the greasy box from the popcorn they ate at the theater, but if you could please take but a moment of time to listen to “There and Back Again” I would be eternally grateful. Just replying that you had listened to it would make the infinite amount of time and love I have poured into this feel fulfilled, not to mention the boundless prayers of those who believe in me and this song. Thank you so much for your precious time and bringing these stories to life on film. They have changed our lives.
