Sierra Club will screen ‘Plastic Paradise’ in Redlands Posted: 06/23/14 The San Gorgonio Chapter of the Sierra Club will screen the film “Plastic Paradise: The Great Pacific Garbage Patch” by Angela Sun at 7:30 p.m. July 1 at the San Bernardino County Museum, 2024 Orange Tree Lane, Redlands. In the film, Sun travels to remote Midway Island, ground zero for a mysterious phenomenon that siphons plastics from three continents. Along the way she meets scientists, researchers and volunteers who shed light on the effects of people’s plastic consumption. Posted on the film’s website, plasticparadisemovie, is the following statement. “Every single piece of plastic that has ever been created since the 19th century is still somewhere on our planet. So if it never goes away, where does it go?” Released in 2013, “Plastic Paradise” won the Broadcast Award at the American Conservation Film Festival, the Environment Award at the San Francisco International Ocean Film Festival and the Isla Award at the Catalina Film Festival. In 2014 it received the Jury Award at the Wild and Scenic Film Festival. “Plastic Paradise” is Sun’s first full-length film. A graduate of UCLA, she was a pro/am surfing competitor in high school and college. She has had experience as a television and Internet correspondent for sports, health and lifestyle. She was the first Asian-American female on-camera personality to appear on ESPN, Fox Sports, Tennis Channel and Yahoo Sports. She is the cover story in the June 2014 issue of the health and fitness magazine Experience Life. Her website is angelasun and she has a Facebook page. The program is free and open to the public.
